‘My brain was never happier than when I did a PhD and could go down rabbit holes of thought, making associations between things in different fields, coming up with new concepts, spotting gaps and describing and discussing my findings.’

In a therapy session recently I was asked why I loved to write so much - this was pretty much my answer. It’s alchemy when you’re in that flow state ✨

Ahaha, I'm literally drawing a doodle and writing some words at the moment around the 'sensation' of writing, and why I find it better than meditation for calming my mind / nervous system ;)

Having just learned about Monotropism and the Monotropic Split last week thanks to a talk from Kieran Rose, I still have so many questions... so thank you so much for sharing these links. Having suffered a 'nervous breakdown' / burnout / nervous system shutdown last year and now living with a 'functional neurological disorder' (many of whom diagnosed I gather are also autistic) I'm fascinated by the link between this and the 'split' you shared. I also have been finding ways to help ground me in that feeling flow when I leave the house / am overwhelmed, as it's the only thing that can calm my tremors and stop my stammer and tics from causing me to shutdown again. Nervous systems are freaking fascinating, and like you I guess I just wish there was more research and education and open discussion around these disabling aspects of our wiring.
